Join us to celebrate the national recipients of the Designers Australia Awards and Graduates of the Year Awards on this special evening. These awards are the benchmark for Australian design excellence and the ultimate accolade for design professionals. These awards promote ideas, creativity, diversity, and processes and reinforce design's social, cultural, economic and environmental impact.

The GOTYA program, the Design Institute of Australia's flagship initiative for emerging designers, plays a crucial role in providing vital, real-life feedback from experienced designers and industry figures to tertiary institutions and design graduates.
Geelong Day Tripper: Dowel Jones 10y - National Wool Museum - GH Commercial
The Magical Mystery Tour is set to take you on a journey through the heart of Geelong, a key player in Victorian manufacturing. Spend a day exploring Geelong's highlights, starting with a tour of the "10 Years of Dowel Jones" exhibition at the National Wool Museum, led by Adam Lynch and Dale Hardiman. Witness a demonstration of the 112-year-old Axminster Jacquard Loom at the museum, followed by a visit to the GH Commercial tufting facility, where you'll see Designer Jet® technology and the carpet tile plant in action. The day concludes with a three-course lunch at Black Sheep, offering a perfect blend of innovation and tradition.

The Architecture Symposium: Readymade
The Architecture Symposium: Readymade challenges us to reconsider existing Australian housing typologies, shifting away from redundancy and towards retention and renewal. From casting a wide collaborative net to open-source methods and mainstreaming practices, Readymade will examine atypical methods and scales of practicing that consider the potential of working intelligently with what we already have.

Visnja Brdar: Design Exalted
MUMA will present the first exhibition of Australian, New York-based designer Visnja Brdar. Having worked across fashion, architecture, product design, real estate and beauty, Brdar’s practice is exemplified by its independence, simplicity and dynamism. The exhibition, the first solo survey of a woman designer in an Australian institution, is curated by Hannah Mathews and will draw on Brdar’s archive and celebrate her important role in contemporary design communication. MUMA will co-publish the first monograph on Brdar’s work with Powerhouse Publishing.

New York-based Australian designer Visnja Brdar discusses her design philosophy and 37 year career, spanning fashion, architecture, product design, real estate and beauty. Brdar will be in conversation with Jonathan Green, presenter of ABC Radio National’s Blueprint for Living.

The Industrial Design of Clement Meadmore: The Harris/Atkins Collection
Widely regarded as one of Australia’s most important sculptors of the twentieth century, Clement Meadmore is also acknowledged as a significant and pioneering figure within the history of Australian modernist design. Featuring an extensive group of individual pieces from the 1950s and early 1960s, this exhibition highlights Meadmore’s highly distinctive approach to industrial design and his remarkable ability to manipulate the most basic, readily available materials—steel rod, cotton cord, glass, sheet metal, canvas and thin plywood—into functional, innovative and durable objects.

Geelong Design Week — Perpetual Pigments : Sustainable Colour Continuous Culture
This participatory, ‘art meets science’, exploration displays the results of testing the effectiveness of recycled pigments from discarded textiles and fabrics for visual art practice by First Nations artists.

Join us for networking drinks and colour inspiration.
The event kicks off with a CPD approved colour learning module 'Colour & its Practical Application', presented by Andrea Lucena Orr – Dulux Colour Communications Manager. Then it’s time for pure colour inspiration, with a presentation by award winning Interior Designer Mardi Doherty (Studio Doherty) and Laminex, followed by an intimate insight into the 2024 Dulux Colour Forecast presented by Colour Fore-caster and Stylist at large Bree Leech, and Andrea Lucena-Orr. The event will conclude with a panel Q&A.

Design Fringe 2023
For the third year, Melbourne Fringe and Linden New Art present Design Fringe with its bold curatorial theme Speculation: Eight Billion Little Utopias. Design Fringe is an open-access experimental design program that supports artists, designers and makers at all career stages. This year’s theme sets designers free to craft unconventional materials into playful and provocative object designs, imagining alternate utopias.
