Jenny Grigg
Dr Jenny Grigg is an award-winning graphic designer who has worked in Sydney, London, Copenhagen, and Melbourne. After graduating from the University of Technology, Sydney, Jenny worked for ten years as the editorial Art Director at Rolling Stone, HQ Magazine and MTV Australia and for Danish design agency Kontrapunkt
Following a year in London designing for Pentagram studio and Faber & Faber, Jenny became Creative Director of Harper Collins Publishers in Sydney. Her designs include a series of book covers for works by eminent author Peter Carey published by University of Queensland Press (2001) and another series of his books published by Random House Australia (2006). She has also designed covers for books by Paul Auster.
Her work has been widely published in many design annuals and magazines in Europe and the UK, including publishing house Faber & Faber’s 80th anniversary edition Eighty Years of Book Cover Design. Her extensive freelance work includes several designs featured on the cover of Eye Magazine, an international quarterly review about graphic design and visual culture.
Jenny was a Creative Fellow at the State Library of Victoria (2011), a speaker at the annual agIdeas International Design Conference (2012) in Melbourne.
Her work has been exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria, the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (Powerhouse Museum) Sydney and the UTS Gallery, Sydney.
She has won numerous awards, including Young Designer of the year in 1996 and 2002, the Best Designed Literary Fiction Book at the Australian Book Design Awards in 2014 and as a 2015 and 2019 Finalist in the AGDA Design Awards in Publication design categories. In 2007, she was nominated for membership of Alliance Graphique Internationale.
Jenny is lecturer in the School of Design at RMIT University, founding member of the Australian Book Designers Association and current art director of Giramondo Publishing. Her research areas are graphic design ideation, graphic design history and material literacy.
