Weeding out unviable operators in QLD construction industry

The Queensland construction watchdog is aiming to reduce insolvencies in the construction industry by removing tradespeople and builders running unviable businesses before they collapse.

The hope is that this will increase the likelihood that people hired for a construction job will be able to see it through to completion.

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) monitors the financial viability of licensed businesses by reviewing records they are required to submit.

This month 170 businesses with an annual allowable turnover of up to $200,000 (category SC1) or maximum revenue up to $800,000 (category SC2) that had failed to submit their annual financial records had their licenses cancelled.

Designers wanting to check whether any tradespeople they work with have had their licenses cancelled can see the list on the QBCC website.
