SA Calls for submissions on Building Reforms
The South Australian government is seeking feedback on proposed changes to building and construction industry laws. The review aims to enhance consumer protection, improve industry compliance, and support quality construction.
Key proposals include:
Increased registration and oversight: This applies to building inspectors and developers to elevate professional standards.
Improved dispute resolution: Streamlining processes for consumers and industry workers to resolve conflicts efficiently.
Continuing professional development: Mandatory training to keep industry workers' skills and knowledge up-to-date.
Stronger enforcement tools: Increased penalties to deter poor practices and ensure compliance.
Contract changes: New rules for "sunset clauses" in off-the-plan sales to protect consumers.
Feedback can be provided through surveys (available for both industry workers and consumers), email submissions, or written submissions. The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2025. DIA will be making a submission on behalf of its members. Visit the SA Government website for details. Discussion paper titled Building and Construction Industry Review is HERE.
