Responsible AI Network and the DIA’s Practice Note
Australia’s national science agency CSIRO hosts the National AI Centre (NAIC) to bring together partners from government, industry and the research sector to boost exploration and adoption of AI in Australia.
The Centre is initially pursuing projects and activities in three overarching themes:
AI at Scale will address the opportunity business has to move from pilot AI projects to full scale production implementation. This also includes the availability of AI infrastructure.
Responsible AI is about delivering gold standard principles, tools and practices to help business develop, adopt and operationalise responsible and ethical AI into their business.
AI for Diversity and Inclusion will focus on driving diversity in talent and delivering principles and tools to ensure that AI systems are inclusive from how they're created, to how they run and the impact they create.
Within the Responsible AI theme NAIC has created a world-first network of partners with expertise in technology, governance, business and ethics. The Responsible AI Network (RAIN) brings together AI specialists, regulatory bodies, training organisations and practitioners to focus on responsible artificial intelligence solutions for Australian industry.
This cross-ecosystem collaboration aimed at uplifting the practice of responsible AI across Australia's commercial sector will drive a new level of understanding, technology development and adoption of AI in Australia in the years to come.
RAIN is working on extending the high-level principles on using AI developed several years ago into practical guidance for industry. This will take the form of curated advice and best practice guidance within the following domains:
Law
Standards
Principles
Governance
Leadership
Technology
The NAIC website already has a range of resources available that designers can access free of charge, including a catalogue of responsible AI patterns. Interested studios are also invited to sign up for updates or to join the Responsible AI Network.
Did you miss the DIA Practice Note on Generative AI and podcast?
The DIA co-hosted a panel with IP Australia during Melbourne Design Week on the intersection of design and copyright law in the era of readily available generative artificial intelligence. The panel discussed relevant issues for designers such as content custody, ownership and attribution.
