Running an Office: New Practice Notes and member features
The DIA’s member Practice Notes have had their first major overhaul in over a decade and this week we are releasing the Running an Office series. Other new member features include Track your CPD points online and Recognised Design Courses.
The DIA’s Practice Notes cover topics such as conditions of engagement, confidentiality agreements, preparing for staff reviews, understanding intellectual property and how to set fees for design services. As well as updating existing titles, the DIA’s advocacy team has identified new topics covering issues designers face at different stages of their careers, such as supply chain transparency and responding to requests for free pitches.
The refreshed topics provide more relevant guidance for contemporary workplaces, and the themes organise the different issues in each series:
Designers in Australia
Working as a Designer
Working with Clients
Running an Office (just released)
Buying Design Services
The Running an Office series includes eight titles and covers setting up a design practice, marketing and communications, social media for designers, insurance, GST, staff performance, preparing for a performance appraisal and supply chain transparency.
Members can access the Practice Notes free by logging into their account and going to Resources/Practice Notes

New member feature: Track your CPD points online
Want to receive your DIA Accredited Designer logo easier?* Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points accrued over a calendar year between January and December can be tracked using the new user-friendly online form.
As a DIA Accredited Designer member, you are a well-qualified professional designer; however, over time, new design disciplines emerge, trends evolve, business requirements change and technologies advance. CPD is most effective if undertaken continuously to ensure the currency of skills and knowledge.
*50 accrued points each year allow members to receive their Accredited Designer logo.
New member feature: Recognised Design Courses
Want to promote your Recognised Design Course? How do you choose a course for your team? The DIA has just released a Recognised Design Course Resource, an online chronicle bringing together Australia's leading institutions and their design courses.
The program allows tertiary institutions to align their courses with the design industry's peak body. Students can be assured that their course is appropriate to meet industry expectations.
