DIAGONAL Magazine Launched
Have you ever wondered what Marie Kondo and the movement of galaxies have in common? No, neither have we, but this question and more are answered in the inaugural issue of DIAGONAL, out Thursday 28th November.
DIAGONAL, a new Design Institute of Australia magazine, challenges design silos by exploring the 'why' behind design. From the technical to the absurd, it features stories of ordinary people or objects doing extraordinary things, emphasising design's often hidden impact on daily life. Everything we touch that was made by a human has been designed, and we want to tell the back story.
Out quarterly with a seasonal theme, the inaugural "Spring" issue focuses on resilience. With a combination of feature length articles and regular columns, some serious and some not so serious. And while we are on the topic of resilience, a huge congratulations to designers Byron George for his editing and Sachi Kapadia for her creative direction in bringing this magazine to fruition.
The digital edition is available free of charge to all DIA members here. And at a small fee for non members here. A limited number of print copies of each issue will be available, designed as special and collectable pieces to treasure for years. These editions are more than magazines—they are statement pieces. At a small additional cost, special edition 3D knitted sleeves will be available as a one-of-a-kind companion to your DIAGONAL Spring Issue here.
DIAGONAL aims to show just how important the design sector is in shaping our world, because design thinking is how we’re going to solve most of our biggest issues. In light of this, we also welcome contributions - send us your idea or rant to diagonal@design.org.au. If you’re angry or funny enough you might even get your own column.
The DIAGONAL Spring Issue - out just in time for Summer.
