DIA 2023 Elections

Design Institute of Australia (DIA) Branch Councils and National Committees form an integral part of the way the DIA is governed. Our Councils build a localised community to support DIA members in their professional practice and our National Committees provide subject matter expertise, assisting the DIA to prioritise its activities and outputs.

The DIA invites all members to consider nominating to join their local Branch Council and/or a National Committee. We are seeking members who are well respected, well connected and who come with ideas and passion. Effective Councils and Committees will be diverse, and it is important that a range of design disciplines and experience levels are represented; from early career members to long-time practice directors, we want to hear from you.

This year we are seeking to fill the following vacancies:
 

DIA State Branch Councils

• ACT Branch Council (3 vacancies)

• NSW Branch Council (2 vacancies)

• QLD Branch Council (2 vacancies)

• SA/NT Branch Council (4 vacancies)

• WA Branch Council (4 vacancies) 

  Please note: there are no vacancies this year on the VIC/TAS Branch Council

The National Committees we are appointing new members to are:

• Awards Standing Committee (5 vacancies)

• Membership Steering Committee (6 vacancies)

• Education Steering Committee (5 vacancies)

• Policy Steering Committee (6 vacancies)

Branch Councillors and National Committee Members are voted in by DIA members. Successfully elected Branch Councils appoint their own Chair and Deputy Chair, both of whom will sit on the DIA National Advisory Council. View a complete outline of the roles and commitments here. Participation as a Branch Councillor or National Committee member entitles you to 10 CPD points per year.

The election timeline is as follows:

• 26 September:
  Call for nominations

• 9 October:
  Nominations close 

• 9 – 12 October:
  DIA to assess applications for eligibility

• 13 October:
  DIA to communicate to nominees whether application proceeding to election

• 17 – 27 October: 
  Elections open to DIA membership (where more than necessary nominations are received)

• 31 October:
  Candidates notified of election results

• 2 November:
  Annual General Meeting/endorsement of new Councillors and Committee Members

• ~ 6 November:
  New Councils and National Committees announced to membership

• 8 – 17 November:
  Councils meet to vote in Chair and Deputy Chair
