The Voice of Professional Design

Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences

As a professional, national organisation representing the interests of its members, the DIA regularly undertakes various lobbying initiatives in areas it feels are of interest and of potential benefit for its members.

CHASS (Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences) provides a new lobbying interface with the Federal Government, and is an organisation the DIA is actively involved in.

For some years now the sciences have enjoyed attention from Federal politics through the lobbying efforts of FASTS (Federation of Australian Scientific and Technological Societies).

CHASS has been modelled on the success of FASTS and is intending to build a greater awareness of the humanities and social sciences in national policy and ‘will serve as a coordinating forum for academics, students, business, and the broader community’.

The DIA is a foundation member of CHASS and participates in an annual ‘HASS on the Hill’ event in Canberra to promote the importance of healthy levels of research, practice and education in the design profession.

CHASS provides the design sector with a knowledgeable interface through which to deliver design issues to Federal Government.
